When we think of Scarborough, we think of family-friendly B&Bs, getting the buckets and spades at the ready and gorging on fish and chips until we pop. What we’ve never thought of before is luxury seafront retreats, champagne, and cosy nights watching the waves lap in – until now.
Located bang on North Beach at Peasholm Gap, The Sands is a luxury apartment complex boasting an array of sea-facing stays – each blessed with its own apartment overlooking the golden sands of the beach – and upon stepping into the apartment, it’s a real wow moment.

A unique view that can only be experienced at the complex, we immediately gravitated to the balcony (bottle of fizz in hand, of course) to 1) soak up the rays and 2) take in the breathtaking views of the beach below and the castle in the distance.
We gravitated so quickly to the view, in fact, that we completely forgot to check out the rest of the apartment.

Decorated in calming coastal hues with warm lighting and homely touches, we found ourselves in a new home from home (or ‘herm from herm’ if you’re like us and from East Yorkshire).
Complete with a social dining space, outdoor seating and, of course, the cosiest beds with squishy marshmallow-like pillows (a real treat when all you have at home is flat-as-pancakes Tesco essentials pillows), we had everything we needed to disappear from the world for a while in a seaside haven – and to be honest, we had zero plans to leave the balcony after we uncovered it.
But while the views from the balcony are the star of the show overall, the location comes in a pretty close second – situated central to Scarborough’s North Bay offering.

A whole bus ride away from the hustle and bustle that is Scarborough’s main tourist resort at South Bay, the North Bay area offers a quieter retreat that’s ideal for those who simply want to enjoy the beach and a quiet drink – with two beachfront bars with outdoor seating and great grub, a handful of quaint cafes, and the tranquil Peasholm Park all within short walking distance.
For those who do want to join the fun, however, visitors can easily board a regular bus that runs from North Bay beach to the harbour on the side side of the town, offering fantastic views past the castle and a quick and easy way to travel between both bays.
During the off-season, the North Bay beach can be enjoyed for dog-walking, too, making this the perfect, peaceful break away in sunny Scarborough.
The Sands can be found at Peasholm Gap, and you can find out more here.
