Scarborough is one of our favourite places to visit! It has something for everyone, whether you fancy trying your hand at crabbing, surfing or just fancy some fish & chips by the sea – Scarborough is the perfect place to visit. It has some of our favourite beaches, and places to visit in Scarborough are in abundance. There is a reason Scarborough is one of the UK’s oldest and most successful tourist areas. Enjoy our list of things to do in Scarborough.
1. Scarborough Beaches

As one of the top seaside resorts in the UK and the oldest, it is easy to see why people flock to Scarborough beaches each summer. The vibrant seaside Yorkshire town offers two beautiful sandy beaches that are divided by a rocky promontory where the 11th Century Scarborough Castle sits.
The South Bay is the livelier of the two beaches as has plenty of shops, cafes and activities that you picture when you think seaside town. Whereas the North Bay beach is a beautiful sandy and spacious beach that offers a cliff backdrop and time away from the hustle and bustle, although it will be busy in the high season.
2. Scarborough Ice Creams

There is nothing like ice cream to cool you down in the sun, and Scarborough has some fabulous ice cream shops to enjoy. One of our favourites is Holy Cow, which sits on the South Bay beach. They serve up over 30+ flavours of natural homemade ice cream in a classic waffle cone.
If you’re feeling extra naughty, you can enjoy their Mega Moo, which is three scoops of your favourite creams – plus two chocolate brownie sticks, covered in hot chocolate fudge sauce and whipped cream and sprinkles – perfect! As well as ice creams, Holy Cow serves up fruit and milk pops and a wide range of milkshakes and waffles.
3. Scarborough Fish & Chips

The Yorkshire Coast has the best fish & chips in the whole of the country, and we named some of them (according to you) here. As a seaside town, you can take advantage of years of experience and the fact you’ll be enjoying locally sourced, fresh fish & chips from the beautiful coastal town. Check out some of our favourite fish & chips here.
4. Scarborough Surfing

Scarborough is a favourite for surfers, whether it is their secret surf spot of Cayton Bay or the wonderful South Bay. Both offer something for every type of surfer. You can keep an eye on when to go here.
They have surfing schools and more for you to enjoy. The views from the sea are beautiful, which only makes the surfing experience even better. Just make sure you don’t forget your wetsuit.
5. Scarborough Castle

Enjoy the panoramic views of the Yorkshire Coastline from Scarborough Castle. Around 3,000 years old, it is steeped in history and is the perfect place to immerse yourself. It overlooks the North Sea and is the perfect place to visit with the family. They have a range of experiences throughout the year as well as general day-to-day visits, so keep your eyes on their website here.
You can grab a coffee from their coffee shed and enjoy the grassy headland on which it sits. It’s one of our favourite areas of Scarborough to visit, that’s for sure.
6. Scarborough Sea Life

Best of both worlds, as it has a unique mix of indoor and outdoor displays, Scarborough Sea Life Centre is fun for all the family. You can enjoy getting to see starfish, sharks and penguins! Their unique feature is Penguin Island, ocean tunnels and Yorkshire’s only Seal Hospital! Our favourites are the otters!
They have an amazing world of creepy crawlies, lizards and other critters. As well as those you can enjoy all the underwater world and 2,500 amazing Great Barrier Reef creatures.
7. Scarborough Alpamare

Not just a waterpark, Alpamare sits next to Scarborough’s beautiful coast and boasts an infinity pool, spa facilities and a bar. That’s enough of what there is for the mums and dad. Kids can enjoy the amazing waterslides, wave pools, heated outdoor pools and more. It’s the perfect place for families to make some memories together.
