Step back in time and embark on a journey through maritime history aboard the ‘Galeón Andalucía,’ as a stunning replica Spanish galleon is set to dock in Scarborough this July after spending some time up the coast in Whiby. Play at being a real life pirate as you explore the ship as it visits the Yorkshire Coast towns. It arrives in Whitby today, and we’re getting excited.
From July 19th to 21st., the ship will be moored in Scarborough’s shores, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore its decks and delve into the rich heritage of Spanish seafaring. Its mooring in Scarborough coincides with the town’s bustling Seafest celebrations.
Crafted in 2009, this remarkable vessel is more than just a ship; it’s a floating museum dedicated to preserving the legacy of Spanish galleons that played a pivotal role in shaping global trade routes from the 16th to the 18th century.

As you step aboard, you’ll be greeted by the sight of its imposing structure, weighing 500 tonnes and stretching 160 feet in length, with a beam of 32 feet. Admire the four majestic masts, adorned with six billowing sails spanning a total of 11,000 square feet, a true testament to the engineering marvels of the past.
Venture below deck, where the ‘Galeón Andalucía’ comes to life, its creaking timbers echoing with tales of daring voyages across the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Explore five meticulously reconstructed levels, each offering a glimpse into the daily life of sailors who braved the high seas centuries ago. From the cramped quarters of the crew to the opulent cabins of the captain, every corner tells a story of adventure, hardship, and perseverance.
But the ‘Galeón Andalucía’ is more than just a relic of the past; it’s a living piece of history, manned by a diverse crew of 12 men and women from across the globe. As you wander its decks, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with these passionate sailors, learning about their roles aboard the ship and the challenges they face in preserving its legacy.
