This Yorkshire City Has Been Named In Top 100 Cities In The World

Well, isn’t this nice? Yorkshire’s major city featured in a list of the world’s best. Albeit, it is in the back end of the list, it is still. With 270 cities analysed featuring in the top 100 is mighty impressive for the West Yorkshire city of Leeds, which beat out its neighbour the historic city of York to be the only Yorkshire city named.

Put together by the global advisor on tourism and economic development of cities and destinations Resonance Consultancy, the list takes into account a range of factors to create the annual rankings. It uses recommendations from locals and visitors from TripAdvisor, Google, Facebook, and Instagram to create the list.

Looking at factors such as livability, and sustainable infrastructure available for communities to grow. Loveability, social vibrancy and prosperity are applied to the global cities with a population of more than one million. This is the ninth year for the list, which analyses over 270 cities.

This methodology is applied to ‘global cities’, cities with metropolitan populations of more than one million. This is the ninth year Resonance Consultancy has released such rankings this year.

London was ranked number one on the list, with Paris in second and New York in third followed by Tokyo. But, Yorkshire’s own also featured. Squeezed in between Bucharest and Muscat in 88th place is the West Yorkshire city of Leeds.

It’s described as the fourth-largest city in the UK noting it has reaped the fruits of its labour after it lost the European Capital of Culture bid launching its own year of culture instead. It included concerts, a literary festival and a senior storytelling initiative. It’s praised for its ‘storied nightlife’, its six universities and bringing acid house dance music to the world.

Places highlighted in the article are Viaduct Showar, an LGBTQIA+ hot spot, and Roundhay Park, one of Europe’s largest urban green spaces at 285 hectares with lakes, forests, playgrounds and cafes to be enjoyed. It’s even hosted a range of shows from Rolling Stones, Madonna and U2 to of course Ed Sheeran.

Home to some fantastic restaurants, bars and things to do, Leeds is Yorkshire’s leading city when it comes to development. it’s hard recognisable in places compared to a decade ago – and is Yorkshire’s most cosmopolitan city.
