This Yorkshire City Named In Top 5 UK Cities That Loves Guinness The Most

With Netflix’s hit drama House of Guinness winning rave reviews, it looks like a pint of the black stuff will be one of the most popular drinks of choice this autumn and winter. The series, created by the mastermind behind Peaky Blinders and starring Yorkshire’s own James Norton, has been described as “a bit like Succession, but with booze”, and it’s only adding to the drink’s growing cultural clout.

New research from catering suppliers Alliance Online Ireland has revealed the biggest Guinness-loving hotspots in the UK, analysing both affordability and search popularity to create a comprehensive ranking of where the Irish stout is most adored. Using a weighted scoring system, the study factored in average pint prices and search volumes, scaled against each city’s population, to work out an overall Guinness Enthusiasm Score.

Hull secured fifth place, with an impressive score of 67.28 out of 100, cementing its status as one of the nation’s top cities for Guinness fans. Elsewhere in the rankings, Manchester came out on top with a near-perfect score of 92.58/100, while Newcastle upon Tyne followed close behind with 91.55/100. Plymouth took third place, scoring 69.12/100, rounding out the UK’s top Guinness-loving cities.

Commenting on Guinness’ rising popularity, Rachael Kiss of Alliance Online Ireland said: “Guinness has seen a real surge in popularity recently, with sales in the UK rising by 21% between July and October, even outpacing the wider beer market.

With an average pint often costing more than a standard lager, customers are expecting a premium experience in return. That’s why the pour is so important — from the two-part serve to the creamy head, every detail contributes to how people judge the quality of their pint.”

Kiss also highlighted how presentation has become part of the drinking experience, pointing to viral trends like ‘Split the G’, where drinkers try to sip their pint so the foam line rests neatly across the “G” of the Guinness logo. With sales booming, screen time on Netflix, and now a firm cultural status in cities like Hull, Guinness looks set to dominate pint glasses across the country this winter.
