6 Of The Most Delicious Sunday Roasts To Try In & Around Hull

Sundays were made for one thing and one thing only: food. And here in Yorkshire, it’s pretty much sacrilege if that food doesn’t involve a Yorkshire pudding. Next time you’re in the mood for the holy Sunday dinner, you’ll want to bookmark this page for our guide to the best Sunday roasts in (and around) Hull.

1. Butler Whites

Butler Whites has quickly become one of our favourite spots in Hull, not only because of its prime spot on Humber Street, but also because of the delicious menu.

On Sundays, guests can expect huge Yorkshire puddings accompanied by crispy roasties, succulent meat, and rich gravy – with tons of other atmospheric bars surrounding to wind down in afterwards.

Everything the team touches here is gold, with ample flavour making you want to return again, and again. Their wine menu is top notch, too.

2. Santi’s

While Santi’s is usually one of Hull’s best Italian restaurants, on Sunday’s, they also serve up a cracking Sunday roast.

Lightly infused with a taste of Italy, the Sunday roast follows the classic structure – with an upmarket, flavourful twist. Expect meat choices such as porchetta and roast beef, served alongside roast potatoes, glazed root vegetables, stuffing, red cabbage and greens.

Their cauliflower cheese side is a must-order, topped with mozzarella for the most perfect cheesy treat.

Dessert is also a must-order, with options such as Nutella cookie dough (a fave of ours), seasonal crumble, cannoli and more.

An unsuspecting quirky sandwich shop found on Princes Avenue, Marla’s serves up some of the best food in Hull – especially on Sundays.

Roasts are piled high with all the trimmings, with unexpected but incredible flavours throughout the plate (mustard veggies, is that you?!). The portions are perfect, with huge Yorkshire’s topping the plate and thick gravy smothered on top.

The small restaurant is intimate, with beautiful, cool decor and great vibes.

Not many restaurants come close to Hearth – not even across the whole region of Yorkshire – thanks to its stunning ever-changing menu cooked over, you guessed it, the team’s very own custom hearth.

The restaurant is hidden above their bakery overlooking Prince Street, and on Sundays, guests can tuck into stunning roasts with a choice of Hereford beef, roast chicken or pork loin – all served with Yorkshire puddings, roasties, seasonal veggies and cauliflower cheese. The gravy is irresistible, too.

If it’s a cracker of a homemade roast you’re after, Russ’s Roasts at Mr Moody’s Tavern are it. Serving from noon til sellout at the quaint and cosy pub, guests can choose from roast beef, lamb shank, garlic chicken, turkey and gammon combo or shoulder of pork, piled high with roasties, creamy chive mash, honey roasted carrots, red cabbage, greens, stuffing balls, Yorkshire pudding and, of course, plenty of gravy. Told you it was piled high.

These huge roasts are perfect in the pub setting, and a great casual feast for Sunday grub done right.

The Old Lamp Room is a proper local favourite, so you’ll want to book in advance to nab a table. Unassumingly located on a platform at Cottingham train station, The Old Lamp Room serves up a stunning weekly roast, using the chef’s own homegrown produce from the local allotment.

Think fluffy Yorkies, alongside a choice of beef, pork or chicken, with roasties, stuffing, veggies and rich gravy. The perfect homemade roast.

The Old Lamp Room, Station Rd, Station, Cottingham, HU16 4LL.
