There’s nowt better than a good bottle of booze, even better if it’s cheap. And, Aldi’s red wine has ticked both those boxes this year as it’s named the best value Christmas tipple.
Christmas can be an expensive time of the year with presents to buy, dinners to make, decorations to make your home more festive – and not to mention heating bills with the weather taking a turn over the past week. So, a few good deals on certain items can really help.
Aldi has slashed the prices of one of its bottle of reds to £3.49 a bottle. Aldi’s Specially Selected French Cairanne is usually £8.99, but from the 11th December it will be more than half that. This particular tipple is a hit with critics as well, so you can always pretend to guests that it’s a fancy pants bottle of wine – or, like we would do – brag about how cheap it was. After all, we all love a bargain.
Jane McQuitty, wint critic at The Times, said the booze was a festive gift to the nation’, and ‘the bottle to buy’.
She wrote: “Savvy shoppers have always raced to Aldi for their weekly winter £3.49 specials, but of the dozen popping up this month and next, its tasty 2021 Specially Selected French Cairanne, a skilful blend of 60 per cent grenache, 25 percent syrah, 10 percent mourvedre and 5 percent carignan, is the bottle to buy.

“Recommended in my Summer Top 100 at its full £8.99 price, a few months of extra age have seen this Cairanne’s silky tannins and warm thyme and pine sunny hillside scents and tastes develop into a more mature, excellent, earthy, cracked black pepper southern Rhône.”
Be quick though, the cheaper price is for one week only from 11th December. So, make sure you don’t miss out on this fantastic bargain. It comes as Aldi announced its ‘Christmas price lock’ as well, on the cost of Christ dinner essentials.
