Great Northern Day Launches in Bradford’s Darley Street Market With Street Food, Music & More

Bradford’s Darley Street Market will be the stage for a brand-new celebration this August Bank Holiday Sunday, as Great Northern Day makes its debut with a packed line-up of food, drink, music, and art.

The all-day event will bring together some of the North’s most iconic brands and creative talent in a festival-style showcase of the region’s culture. Visitors can expect live performances ranging from brass bands and Bhangra to Northern Soul and DJs, with acts including Punjabi Roots, City of Bradford Brass Band, Back Chat Brass, Jordan Wilson, and the No Hands DJs.

The event runs from 11am to 7pm and is free. Food and drink will be at the heart of the celebration. Highlights include exclusive pie collaborations from Bundobust with Great North Pie Co, and from Finer Pleasures with MyLahore, alongside snacks from Seabrook Crisps and, of course, brews by Northern Monk. Soft drinks will be provided by Drink Hip Pop.

Shoppers can browse northern-inspired clothing and merchandise while families take part in creative workshops and explore a northern art market curated by Mek Summat.

As part of the launch, visitors will also be invited to contribute ideas for the Flag of the North, a new banner being developed to represent the region. The final design will be revealed at Great Northern Day 2026.

BBC reports that Bradford Council’s Alex Ross-Shaw said he was delighted the company chose Darley Street Market to host the inaugural event. He said: “The main activity will take place in the courtyard and our Darley Street Kitchen will be open as usual,” he said. Our near neighbours on North Parade will also be holding their street party on the same day, so there’s plenty of fun to be had in the city centre.”
