We’ve all made the comparison at some point, and now Jane McDonald confirmed it on her new Channel 5 show, Jane McDonald: My Yorkshire. Bridlington is a much better holiday than the Maldives according to Jane, and we couldn’t agree more. You’ve got the sun, sea, sand as well as ice creams, fish and chips and more.
The presenter was visiting the East Yorkshire seaside resort on Sunday night’s episode of Jane McDonald: My Yorkshire. She recollected her times holidaying in Brid as a child, and whilst chilling on a deckchair on the beach said “You can keep the Maldives, I’m sticking to Brid.”

Describing the seaside town, the West Yorkshire-born singer said it has “blue skies, gorgeous beaches and sea air… It doesn’t get any better than this – this is Brid.”
Jane carried on her recollections of her holidays saying “As a girl, I made a beeline for those golden beaches. I have so amazing memories of being here with my family.
“Bridlington’s beaches are fabulous, it doesn’t matter what time of year it is – it’s beautiful.

“For years and years I came to these beaches with my wind break and my cossie.
“As a kid, you don’t really care, you just want to get in the sea.”
Whilst visiting the humble seaside town, Jane visited an ice cream parlour and tucked into a classic knickerbocker glory whilst reminiscing about her childhood.

The famous Yorkshire Belle took McDonald along the coastline to Flamborough Head – where Jane’s last trip wasn’t as successful -“The last time I went on it, I was sick the whole time.”
“Not just a little bit, I was sick from the moment I got on to the moment I got off.”
Jane finished off her trip with the classic seaside delicacy of fish and chips with scraps – calling it “Yorkshire gold”.
Other destinations will include coastal destinations such as Scarborough, and Whitby, alongside beauty spots such as Knaresborough, the Yorkshire Dales and the stunning moors.
Jane McDonald’s Yorkshire airs on Channel 5 February 20th at 9pm. Watch it on Catch Up here.
