Attention all Potterheads. A bridge located at the station that features in the Harry Potter films is in need of repair and needs saving through the raising of money through donations. So, if you’re an avid Potter fan that wants to keep locations intact for future generations to enjoy, why not donate and help save a piece of history.
The bridge is located at the entrance to Goathland Station in the North York Moors which was used as Hogsmead Station in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) has launched an appeal in a bid to save the site that’s in need of urgent repair.
The popular tourist destination where ITV’s Heartbeat was also filmed is located just below Whitby, and is like stepping back in time. The station is kept in great condition, so it’s easy to see why it was chosen by the franchise to use in the film.
We visited the site last year and we have to say it was such a beautiful, idyllic spot to visit – and was like stepping back in time with everything kept in great condition.
Over time elements on the Bridge 27A that gives access to the station, and was built in 1935 have begun to decay and are now in need of repair. The bridge gives important access to the station, so it’s imperative it’s repaired.

A spokesperson for NYMR said: “Due to weather conditions and time, the steel girders that give strength to the structure of the bridge have been negatively impacted, making it unsafe for vehicles to cross.”
The spokesperson continued: “When completed, the reparation will once again allow visitors and volunteers to be able to safely access the station and experience the magic of Goathland Station. It also means the NYMR’s popular educational school visits can continue – last year the heritage railway attraction welcomed over 1,000 school children to learn about the importance of the railway.”
Tim Bruce, director of civil engineering at the NYMR, said: “The campaign to repair Goathland’s Bridge 27A is essential to ensure that future generations will be able to access Goathland Station for many years to come. Donating just £10 gets us closer to our goal to rebuild the bridge, meaning we can reopen our magical station to the world.”
