The Yorkshire Coast town of Whitby featured in the 10 best holiday hotspots in the UK, according to a newly-published study.
Go Outdoors, the experts in adventure gear looked at hiking, biking, nature and wildlife as well as the average cost of local transport and how popular a spot was to come up with the ideal places to visit this summer.
It resulted in Whitby coming in at fifth place beating the likes of Tenby, Rye, Padstow and Braemar. The list also featured the popular Peak District spot of Bakewell, famous for the Bakewell Tart in fourth place.

Whitby had almost 25,000 Google searches and scored a 7.58 out of 10 on the Go Outdoors survey. With Whitby Abbey, the stunning cobbles streets to wander down, and its range of independents – it’s no surprise.

Whitby obviously scores high for us on its fish & chips offers along with its range of pubs and restaurants to eat at as well. So you at least know you’ll be fed and watered properly.
The Yorkshire Coast seaside town places behind Betws-y-Coed in North Wales in first-place, second-placed was Ambleside in the Lake District and St Ives, Cornwall in third spot.
