It’s that time of the year when you think about filling those summer weekends up with activities and if you’re not planning on spending your time abroad this summer. Then we’ve got a couple of Yorkshire coast villages that are a right treat. And, we aren’t the only ones who think so, as the Daily Mail have featured them in its recent best villages list.
Found on the North Yorkshire coast Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay are two historic fishing villages with interesting pasts. Both are absolutely stunning and very idyllic so it’s easy to so how they’ve featured in a list like this. Just up the coast from the popular seaside town of Whitby, both spots have a lot to offer.

Writing about Staithes the newspaper highlighted its ‘rugged beauty’ and described how it “sits in a steep-sided gorge where the Staithes Beck meets the North Sea”. With its charming winding cobbled streets and quaint cottages, it’s a real treat for visitors. The paper also highlighted its popularity with fossil hunters, so much so it’s called the ‘Dinosaur Coast’.
Also featured on the list was Robin Hood’s Bay, the picturesque historic fishing village on the edge of the North York Moors. Known for smuggling and a labrith of alleyways littered in quaint little cottages. The Daily Mail highlighted its “Little cottages, towering cliffs and cobbled lanes add to its rugged beauty, as do historic buildings such as St Stephen’s Church and the Old Coastguard Station, which now houses a museum dedicated to the area’s maritime past.”
Robin Hood’s Bay holds a special place in our hearts, but we’ve yet to venture to Staithes. Offering up some of the most picture perfect views, Robin Hood’s Bay is a real treat for visitors to enjoy that’s for sure. We’d add it to our summer bucket list if we were thinking of heading anywhere in Yorkshire over the sunnier months.
