BBC’s One ‘Gladiators’ Reboot Set To Air This Weekend

That’s right, the popular 90s game show Gladiators is set to return on Saturday to its new home on BBC One. The new series of Gladiators will introduce brand-new games and feature classic ones such as Duel, Hang Tough and the infamous Eliminator, which will end each episode along with new Gladiators.

The programme, previously popular for pitting contestants against characters including Wolf, Jet and Hunter, appeared on ITV from 1992 to 2000, before being resurrected on Sky One in 2008 and 2009.

Returning to screens in its new home on the BBC, Gladiators, one of the most exciting and iconic sports entertainment game shows ever, is hosted by the dynamic father and son duo Bradley and Barney Walsh. The show features a new generation of superhuman Gladiators engaging in the ultimate test of speed and strength against a brave set of contenders.

With a mix of brand-new games and classic challenges, including the much-loved fan-favourite, The Eliminator, the competition promises an exhilarating experience for both participants and viewers alike.

A new range of Gladiators are back and ready to take on the contenders with exciting new names including Apollo, Athena, Electro, fire along with two Yorkshire Gladiators Bionic from Middlesborough and Fury from West Yorkshire.

Bionic, known as a machine, is looking forward to Duels and the Gauntlet which play to his strengths, as well as Collision where he says he’s ‘more than just a big brute who will knock you off a podium’.

He also has some family history with the show as his dad was a contender on previous series – and he also grew up loving the show.

Fury, West Yorkshire girl, loves The Ring, one of the new games, as it plays to her strength, which involves tackling the contenders as they try to run past her and reach the button in the middle. A rugby player at heart, she appreciated the crowds at the Sheffield Utilita Arena.

Fury is the first ever deaf Gladiator and says she was ‘especially touched because some deaf kids came to watch the show and they’d made banners, saying they were deaf too and wanted to be a Gladiator now because of Fury, and that made me feel really proud to represent the deaf community on such a cool show.’

The new show of Gladiators is set to premiere on Saturday, January 13th at 5.50pm on BBC One and Player.
