Dishoom Leeds is almost ready to open. One of the UK’s most beloved restaurant groups is finally making its long-awaited arrival in the city this August.
Inspired by the old Irani cafés of Bombay, Dishoom has built a cult following across the country thanks to its nostalgic interiors, warm hospitality, and much-loved menu of Indian favourites. The new Leeds restaurant promises to bring the spirit and flavours of Bombay to the heart of the city, offering everything from its famous bacon naan rolls and house black daal to signature curries and small plates.
With anticipation building among food lovers across Yorkshire, the opening is set to be one of Leeds’ biggest restaurant launches of the year.
Dishoom Leeds will be welcoming guests at its Vicar Lane restaurant from the 3rd August, and will welcome diners with a 50% off food during the initial soft opening period ahead of its official opening on 14th August. Found in the popular Victoria Quarter, we are excited to try some of Dishoom’s favourites like its breakfast bacon naan roll and iconic chicken ruby.
The new cafe is inspired by one of Bombay’s strangest true tales, the day gold fell from the sky. The story goes that an explosion of the SS Fort Stikine in Bombay Dock in 1944 exploded, sending gold bars flying across the city. Dishoom Leeds has reimagined the fortine made from the gold bars with subtle references in the glamorous mid-century detail through the interiors and artwork that gives a nod to Bombay’s golden age.

All-day dining is available from the beloved breakfast right through to the late evening feasting. The cafe will serve a lovingly curated Bombay comfort food inspired by the city’s cafés, grills, street stalls and family kitchens. Guests are encouraged to embrace Dishoom’s more spontaneous way of dining, with walk-ins welcome and a table set aside each day for guests to swing by and be seated swiftly.
As well as Dishoom favourites, the famed Bacon Naan Roll, melt-in-mouth Chicken Ruby curry, guests can enjoy a generously sized feast made for sharing among groups of 10 or more, such as Keema Pau, House Black Daal, Chicken Berry Britannia, Roomali Roti and Pistachio Kulfi.
Dishoom’s drink list is just as exciting with offerings such as the classic India Gimlet, crafted with London Dry Gin, Rose’s lime, celery bitters and fresh dill, to the Kohinoor Mojito, a bright twist on the classic with Takamaka Seychelles Rum Blanc, dry white vermouth and house-made mojito cordial.
Shamil Thakrar, co-founder, also known as Head Babu, at Dishoom, said: “Leeds is a city with tremendous warmth, creativity and character, full of people who know the value of gathering together over good food and drinks. Bringing Dishoom here has long been a dream for us.”

“The story behind this café is rooted in one of Bombay’s most extraordinary moments – the day gold bars fell from the sky after the explosion of Fort Stikine in 1944. Amidst the tragedy and chaos, there were also tales of unexpected fortune, human resilience and hopeful reinvention. We were captivated by this, and we cannot wait to welcome Leeds into the café that pays homage to the heritage of Bombay.”
