8 Cosy Yorkshire Coast Pubs You Need To Visit This Winter

After you’ve braved the winter weather for a winter walk along the Yorkshire Coast, nothing beats getting cosy in a traditional pub by the fire with real ales and top pub grub. From Saltburn down to Spurn Point, Yorkshire has some fantastic coastal walks, and this time of year is one of our favourite times to visit when the coast looks its most dramatic. The grey skies, rough seas and wonderful cliff views are all there to be enjoyed in the winter months, so make sure you don’t miss out on the cosy Yorkshire Coast pubs on your next visit. Enjoy these cosy pubs, with cosy chairs, warm fires and a nice ambience.

The Yorkshire Coast is home to some fantastic seaside towns and villages with plenty of pubs full of charm. If you’re visiting any of these areas we’ve tried to pick a pub we love or like the look of for you to try. We are talking roaring fire, real ales on tap and hopefully some board games to sit and play – maybe even some nice pub grub.

So, what are best cosy Yorkshire Coast pubs for you to visit?

1. The Bay Hotel, Robin Hood’s Bay

This pub has to offer the most stunning views from a pub in the whole of Yorkshire. And, the best bit? The windows are positioned right next to a roaring fire, which means you can sit in this cosy pub and enjoy views looking out over Robin Hood’s Bay, an old fishing village that is also renowned for its dark smugglers past as well. The pub is a marker for the end of the Coast to Coast walk that takes you from St Bees in Cumbria to North Yorkshire.

The pub has a range of fantastic ales and also serves up classic pub grub so you know you’re in for a real treat. And as far as Yorkshire Coast pubs go, it has all the charm you could want. It’s main bar area is set up with bench seating around the edges (as all pubs should in our eyes), which means you’re sure to make friends whilst enjoying a pint after a nice winter walk.

2. Laurel Inn, Robin Hood’s Bay

This is actually my favourite pub on the Yorkshire Coast. It’s quaint, full of charm and has a roaring fire, which is perfect having taken on the cliffs around Robin Hood’s Bay. Stepping into this pub is like taking a step back in time. Its old-worldly charm is what captured my heart on my first visit and the ales and environment is what keep me coming back. I always have to nip in for a pint here whenever I visit Robin Hood’s Bay – and I’m sure you’ll love it as well on your next trip.

Head down the steep hill from the car park at the top of Robin Hood’s Bay and as the roda curves round you’re greeted with a quaint white washed building with a beautiful laurel tree outside. Step inside and enjoy the warmth that the tiny pub has to offer. We love a nice ale and this pub provides a little something for everyone. A great find and a cosy escape – especially in the winter months.

3. Cod & Lobster, Staithes

Another quaint fishing village? Go on then! Cod & Lobster is a fan favourite with visitors in Staithes thanks to its lovely outdoor seating with views overlooking the sea. Open to the elements, winter is the perfect place to visit this pub. Whilst the North Sea winds blow against the cliffs you can sit cosy and warm with some fine ales and take in the dramatic scenes. The long-established pub serves up classic pub grub as well. Head over for an evening meal and you an catch the full moon casting its blue light over the bay.

4. The Board Inn, Bridlington

Nestled in Bridlington’s stunning Old Town, The Board Inn has all the charm of a traditional pub. This Georgian-themed gem boasts a large selection of ales, deep Chesterfield chairs, and a roaring fire—perfect for staying warm on freezing winter nights. Adding to its cosy atmosphere, the pub hosts regular live acts, making it an ideal spot for a singalong and a lively night out. Expect a fantastic range of local ales, along with some guest selections, ensuring there’s always something new to try on your next visit.

5. The Ship Inn, Sewerby

Another stunning village pub offering up unmatched seaviews. In the summer time The Ship Inn is the only place to be. It’s beer garden is the ebst Yorkshire Coast spot and an absolute hidden gem located in the village of Sewerby. In the winter months the pub is a cosy spot to be. Our favourite place to get sat for a few is next to the bar checking out all the bits of parifinalea that adorn the walls. A lot of love and care has been put into this place and it shows. If you’re looking for a cosy winter pub that serves up hearty grub with local ales on the Yorkshire Coast then don’t skip this little gem.

6. The Falcon Inn, Cloughton

Nestled in the stunning North York Moors between Whitby and Scarborough, The Falcon Inn is a charming and picturesque destination that captivates visitors in every season. With vibrant floral displays in the summer and enchanting snowy landscapes in the winter, this family-run inn is a welcoming retreat all year round.

Combining contemporary comfort with traditional character, both the bar and accommodation offer a cosy and inviting atmosphere. The Golden Lion is a classic Irish pub right in the heart of Whitby. Whether you’re on your own or with friends, you’ll always find a warm welcome and plenty of craic! As Whitby’s oldest existing pub, dating back to 1714, it’s packed with character and charm—the perfect place to while away a rainy day with a pint of Guinness in hand. If you’re after a lively night with a twist, this is the spot for you.

Meet you at the bar—your round… It might be an Irish pub, but I’m still a Yorkshireman, after all!

8. The Merchant, Scarborough

Another Irish pub? Go on then! The Merchant Irish Bar has been a must-visit in Scarborough since opening over twenty years ago. It’s vision? To create a truly Irish pub—less about shamrocks and more about community, craic, and music. Over the years, it has become a beloved spot for great nights out, a hub for musicians, and a home away from home for many. It has all the charm and atmosphere of an Irish pub and the ales to go with it. We’ve never had a bad night in this pub, and with Irish bars popping up all over Yorkshire this is a proper true gem and one of the best cosy Yorkshire Coast pubs.
